A Vision of Quality

In 1968, Marvin Miller and Marvin Newcomer founded the Newmar Corporation in their hometown of Nappanee, Indiana. They left their jobs at an established RV manufacturer, and they started the company with the shared goal of building and selling the best recreational vehicles the world had ever seen. They knew their woodworking hometown was a perfect place to start their company because it was home to scores of skilled and experienced craftsmen. Many of those passionate and hardworking Nappanee citizens ended up becoming the first Newmar employees. In 1971 the Kountry Aire fifth-wheel travel trailer was released, and Newmar became one of the first and largest fifth-wheel builders in the business.

Entering the Class A Market

The 1970s was a period of rapid growth, and our facilities underwent numerous expansions. We also experienced a leadership change in 1984 when Mahlon Miller stepped down as President of Holiday Rambler to purchase an ownership stake in Newmar Corporation. This was also the time when we entered the Class A motor coach market. Our vision for premium coaches like no other became fully realized in 1990 with the release of both the Dutch Star and Mountain Aire motor coach models. The huge demand for high-end Class A recreational vehicles was definitely not being met, and we struggled to fill orders after releasing these popular brands. These iconic brands raised the standards for premium motorhomes, and continue to be our top sellers.

Raising the Standards

In 2012, we made the strategic decision to discontinue manufacturing fifth wheel travel trailers. The travel trailer market was undergoing a lot of changes, and we decided it was a better investment of our time and resources to completely focus on assembling the world’s finest Class A motor coaches. Fifth wheel trailers definitely put our company on the map, but we couldn’t ignore the overwhelming success of our premium coaches.

We take a lot of pride in our innovations, and every member of the Newmar family shares an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. Every Newmar motorhome is an act of love from our family to yours, and we pledge to continue finding ways to improve our products.
